At Fontys University of Applied Sciences, it is possible to follow almost all higher professional education programmes at bachelor’s and master’s level available anywhere in the Netherlands. Fontys offers programmes in Health Care and Social Work, Economics, Business and Communication, Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Logistics and Transport, and Education. Programmes can be followed in numerous locations. All programmes are focused on professional practice in a modern society. This focus is expressed through practical lessons, practice placements, also abroad, and the use of modern information and communications technology in education. Teaching is provided at Fontys in small groups, which guarantees close contacts with lecturers who can better be described as counsellors. At Fontys, the student always occupies a central position. |

Specific Tasks in WebCEF
Fontys Hogescholen will be responsible for coordinating the analyses of audio and video samples of oral proficiency based on a WebCEF didactic model. Fontys will play an active role in the setting-up and maintaining of the community of practice, with teacher trainers, teachers, teacher trainees and pupils from the partner institutions. In the second and third year, the community of practice will be extended to include interested participants from the national networks of the partner institutions. They will provide the participants with guidelines to assess the samples and summarize the assessments made by participants in the community of practice. They will also be responsible for coordinating the dissemination of the results to the partner institutions. Fontys will participate in providing and collecting audio and video samples of oral language skills for English and Dutch as a foreign language. It will also take part in the community of practice and disseminate the project results in its national networks of schools and higher education institutions.

The mission of the Fontys “Expertise Centre for Educational Functions of ICT":
To support education (and all other communication processes) at the teacher training institutes of the university and their networked partners (in particular schools for primary and secondary education), with a focus on new media and technology and related pedagogical and organisational aspects, and in particular on networked e-learning, distance education, mobile devices and the application of digital methodology in an international context.
